Required Viewing for JavaScript Wannabes

OK, so these are not all ‘required’ but I’ve found them to be very helpful. They are a collection of lectures from Douglas Crawford at Yahoo!. I found them all from YUI Theater which may have other presentations/videos that you might find useful.

  • The JavaScript Programming Language” – provides a comprehensive introduction to the JavaScript Programming Language in this four-part video. I highly recommend this series. If you think you know basic JavaScript, just watch the first one and see if you feel bored.
  • Advanced Javascript” – presents the nuances of the JavaScript programming language in this three-part video. This is optional but recommended. I found it highly instructive.
  • An Inconvenient API: The Theory of the DOM” – discusses the nexus between JavaScript and the browser, exploring the history of the BOM and DOM APIs and their impact on frontend engineering today. I found this interesting, but mostly deals with cross-browser issues, so it’s useful for background information, but not necessarily required for us.
